About the location of our Amersham UK Bed and Breakfast guest house…
Amersham is a market town in Buckinghamshire England. It is just 27 miles from London which makes it ideal for people wanting to commute into the city. This fantastic quaint town is split into two sections: Old Amersham and Amersham on the Hill. Old Amersham has the 13th century church located there as well as the older pubs and houses. With a population of just under 18,000 it is not too over populated and attracts many visitors every year because of its vast amount of things to do and see. Many people commute easily into London from this town and this means weekend homes are sought after in the area.
Â
The town of Amersham dates back to Anglo Saxon times and was recorded in the doomsday book where the name was changed from Egmondesham to the name they use today. The area which was used as the common for many years became developed and the growth of the town resulted in the area becoming Amersham on the hill. This change has now been effect for over 150 years and was created to assist with the railway being placed and the town is now the last stop on the London underground. The early town would have relied heavily on the market trade and the local farmers and in the 18th century brewing was the dominant industry. Like many market towns its popularity brought many people to the town which helped with the local economy.
